The group is accused of illegally shipping advanced artificial intelligence (AI) servers\u2014powered by highly restricted Nvidia chips\u2014to China between 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Defendants<\/strong> The charges name three key individuals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Yih-Shyan &#8220;Wally&#8221; Liaw:<\/strong> A company co-founder, board member, and Senior Vice President. He was arrested in California.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ruei-Tsang &#8220;Steven&#8221; Chang:<\/strong> A sales manager based in Taiwan. He is currently considered a fugitive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ting-Wei &#8220;Willy&#8221; Sun:<\/strong> A contractor for the company, who was also taken into custody.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Alleged Scheme<\/strong> According to federal prosecutors, the defendants orchestrated a &#8220;brazen evasion&#8221; of national security laws. They allegedly used a &#8220;pass-through&#8221; company in Southeast Asia to place orders for over $2.5 billion worth of high-performance servers. These servers were then surreptitiously diverted to China. To hide their tracks, the group is accused of fabricating documents and even staging &#8220;bogus&#8221; equipment setups to deceive internal and regulatory audits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Impact and Response<\/strong> While Super Micro as a corporation was not named as a defendant, the news sent its stock plummeting by more than 24% in early trading.
